Healthy Pizza Recipes
Children love Italian food and it is easy to make healthy versions of pizza recipes. (Try to use a wholewheat base for more nourishment. I have come across delicious spelt bases in health food stores. And of course, if you have the time, the nicest bases are those you make yourself!)
------------------------------------- RECIPE: PRETTY AS A PIZZA From The Kitchen of The Good Food Angel --------------------------------------- INGREDIENTS Olive oil Thinly sliced red onion Thinly sliced green pepper Crushed garlic Thinly sliced fresh plum tomatoes Fresh torn basil leaves Grated mozzarella Grated parmesan Pizza base METHOD Preheat over to 260 C. Drizzle pizza base with olive oil. Layer with peppers, garlic, and herbs. Arrange tomatoes on top and fill the spaces in between with cheeses. Bake on pizza stone or cookie sheet until cheese sizzles. ------------------------------------- RECIPE: BAR-B-Q PIZZA From the Kitchen of The Good Food Angel -------------------------------------- INGREDIENTS Pizza base Bar-B-Q sauce Sliced red onion Fontina cheese Cooked spicy chicken pieces (rolled in chilli powder/cajun seasoning and fried) Fresh coriander METHOD Preheat oven to 260 C. Spread bar-b-q sauce over pizza base. Layer on onion, chicken, coriander and cheese. Cook on pizza stone or cookie sheet until cheese sizzles.
--------------------------------------- RECIPE: PIZZA PESTO From the Kitchen of The Good Food Angel --------------------------------------- INGREDIENTS Pizza base Pesto sauce Broccoli Green beans Courgette Scallion Spinach Grated mozzarella Grated parmesan METHOD Preheat oven to 260 C. Spread pesto over pizza base. Thinly slice vegetables and saute, throwing in the spinach after you remove pan from heat. Spread over pesto. Top with cheese and bake on pizza stone or cookie sheet until cheese sizzles. -------------------------------------- RECIPE: PIZZA DESSERT From the Kitchen of The Good Food Angel --------------------------------------- INGREDIENTS Flour tortilla Peanut butter or chocolate spread Seedless raisins Chopped pineapple, melon, or any fruit your child likes. METHOD Toast the tortilla, both sides, on a dry pan for a couple of minutes to make it nice and crunchy. Cover it with spread and arrange the fruit on top, sprinkling the raisins on last. Fold it over and cut in half. ---------------------------------------- RECIPE: APACHE PIZZA From the Kitchen of The Good Food Angel ---------------------------------------- This is a nice twist on traditional pizza recipes. Warning: This is Hot! Hot! Hot! INGREDIENTS Wholewheat pizza base Salsa Cooked drained black beans Chopped red pepper Chopped green chilli (omit if too hot) Sweetcorn kernels Sliced chedder Sliced avocado Coriander leaves Dash of lime juice METHOD Preheat oven to 260 C. Spread salsa over pizza base. Then cover with beans, pepper, chilli, corn and top with cheese. Cook in the oven, on a pizza stone, or cookie sheet until cheese bubbles up. Remove and garnish with avocado, coriander and a little lime juice. ***TIP: Those allergic to wheat can still enjoy pizza with delicious spelt pizza bases , which you will find in a health food store. ***TIP: Cook a few pizzas in a batch and put in the freezer.
